One of the most frequently asked questions that comes my way is, “How in the world did you end up in Vegas?” For a born-and-raised-in-Nevada kid, coming back here after college in 1988 was a no-brainer. Las Vegas had just one photographer doing serious commercial work in those days, and my partner and I decided that Vegas was about to hit the photographic big time.

They say timing is everything, and we were right on the money. We opened our Las Vegas studio on April Fool’s Day, and hit the ground running. My portfolio coming out of Art Center College of Design had mostly people images in it, as that is what I was really interested in doing, but I soon had art directors asking, “But have you shot food; architecture; a roulette table?

Being almost the ‘only game in town’ helped a lot. Art directors, impressed by my people images, gave me a shot at many things I had no experience with. However, I made it my mission to expand my portfolio to reflect the kind of subject matter that our studio would shoot for the next 20 years.
